Well, it’s happened again. I don’t know if it’s something in the universe, the Big Dipper has re-aligned itself, or I don’t have a third reason, but I’ve gotten re-hooked on running!
Jogging is probably a better term to use at this point, as I am starting out very slow – – two miles at a 9:50-10 min. pace.
I can’t give all the credit to the stars though, as I think my twice-weekly Body Pump classes have made my muscles stronger and my pumped up kicks, a.k.a. my Brooks running shoes, that I bought here, has helped me get to the point I’m at now.
This time around, I have started running again without music. Yes, without music. I find that for me, while running, music only distracts me. Earlier this year, when I would go out for a run, I would focus so much on running to the beat of the song, and would forget my breath, ultimately, leading to a crash and burn.
Additionally, if say, “Some Nights” by Fun. was playing, I felt like my pace needed to keep up with the speed of the song, resulting in another crash and burn.
I may turn the tunes back on once my mileage increases, but we’ll see how it goes. I already feel like I constantly have songs streaming in my mind, and besides, what’s better than running to the beat of your own breath??
