So, first of all, if you follow along here on The Belle Melon, thank you so much for reading! I’ve been fairly inconsistent with posts through out the years, and only recently, have I felt like I’ve gotten into a good pattern of posting regularly, but that will probably fall back into the inconsistent pattern here soon, because I start a new job on Tuesday!! I will announce the company soon, I promise! But anyway, thank you for reading my posts, all or some, or just one, thank you.
This week I’ve vented a lot about my inability to moderate my eating and drinking, so I’m not sure what finally made a “click” in my brain, but as of October 2nd, I decided that I would quit processed foods, processed sugar, alcohol, and gluten for 30 days!! A “modified” Whole 30, if you will. I think I am still on the high of my decision, as it is only Day 2, but I’m pretty excited and proud of it.
My decision was enforced when twice this week, I binge drank and binged ate, and felt so completely horrible about myself. Like disgusted. So, that was it. No more. Enough. 30 days.
For the past six months to a year, I have lost control over my perception of food and alcohol, taking these luxuries (yes, luxuries) for granted, both by over-consumption and over-buying. Hopefully, after these 30 days, I will look to alcohol and food as a privilege and treat, enjoying them in moderation and on special occasions. Maybe after these 30 days, I’ll just have one drink and feel comfortable enough to put a cap at just one or two, or maybe there will be times when I just won’t feel like drinking at all?
There will be some exceptions, like this weekend, I am hard-core craving this organic ravioli I bought on sale last week here. No doubt though, that I will pair it with veggies, like leftover butternut squash and sauteed mushrooms. My main focus through out these 30 days is on alcohol and processed sugar, so I won’t beat myself up too much if I indulge in really delicious pasta or hand-tossed pizza here and there.
I will also be exercising moderation with PB & AB. These nut butters are delicious, nutritious, and addicting, all in one jar! My goal for these triggers is to make the jars last me through out the 30 days. Sounds like a fair deal to me!
I know it’s October; peak season for wineries and breweries, stews, and fests, but hey, that’s just how the cookie crumbles, literally, lol. I’ve told my family and close friends, and everyone is on board. I’ve gotten more positive feedback than I thought!
Although I will still be just as social, I’m very much looking forward to not being hungover on weekend mornings and having more energy overall. I can’t wait until the sun is shining again (maybe by Tuesday?? (fingers crossed!)), and going out for a brisk walk or easy jog in the Fall air, curling up with a book or magazine, coloring (yes, coloring!). Adult Coloring Books are a thing. Ohdeardrea re-caps her favorites here. I may even drag myself over to Target tonight and get one of my own.
Most of all, I’m looking forward to being “present”, and not having this constant haze over me. Honestly, I don’t thrive off of places or events that involve a ton of drinking. I would much rather go to an art opening earlier in the evening or a delicious dinner with friends in an intimate setting, or a low-key party at a friend’s house, rather than be seen at a bar. And I’d prefer to be exercising late Sunday morning, than going to a boozy brunch most times (unless, brunch is at Stella’s!).
So, that’s my modified Whole 30 conception story and I’m stickin’ to it 😉 I’ll be updating my progress weekly, maybe sometimes daily (blogging is a wonderful stress reliever, actually!). Stay tuned my lovely readers…
