I would be lying if I wrote “Happy Monday!”, because I’m still coming down from that birthday high. The dreary weather is not helping, but I digress. I can’t complain for real after an amazing several days last week celebrating my 30th birthday with family and friends.
It began on the 18th, my actual birthday, with a hearty bowl of Brownie Batter Overnight Oats from one of my favorite bloggers. After breakfast with delicious coffee (I’m back on a Gevalia kick), I met my sister and grandmother for lunch at Mosaic. Lunch was delicious! Mosaic always has the best salads. I got the “Fit” salad, which included pickled beet eggs, edamame, feta, and cranberries over chopped greens. Deeee-licious. My sister gave me this fabulous necklace, which I pretty much point blank told her I wanted. It was worth dropping the hint though. Didn’t take it off all weekend!
Find out where they’re sold here.
After lunch, I got a pedicure at one of favorite nail salons with my best friend Emily. We had grand plans of sipping a glass of wine before or after our mani-pedis, but I decided at the last minute to only splurge on a pedicure, but THEN, my brother surprised me by calling in payment for my pedicure, which comes with a COMPLIMENTARY glass of wine!! I was a happy girl :-). I decided to round out my nail care and went back to the salon for a manicure on Friday.
After pedicures, I stopped by my sister’s to receive the most decadent box of chocolates and home-made birthday cards from my nieces. It was so thoughtful of them!!
My birthday dinner was at my parents. On the menu was salmon with an orange marmalade glaze, fresh green beans, corn bread, and twice baked potato. I shared the classic Ukrop’s chocolate layer cake my co-workers got me for dessert.
After dinner, stuffed and full, my sister-in-law texts me and says to come by after dinner for a drink and your presents. So, wanting to stretch out my glorious day as long as possible, I went over to my brother and sister-in-laws…last stop of the night, so I thought! My sister ended up there as well to my surprise!! We siblings all went out for drinks AT 10PM!!! It was worth it though! Worth the lack of sleep and hangover. Worth it all. My brother, sister, and I had not hung out like that in a very long time, and with so many kids between them, who knows when we will again!
Friday night was the BIG NIGHT! It was seriously one of the best nights ever. I’m incredibly lucky to have so many wonderful and loyal friends who are the very best!! The back story though, is that originally, I was planning to have my birthday soiree at the new roof top bar at Quirk Hotel, and I was SOOO excited for that, as you can see I gushed over it enough on Insta, but unfortunately I found out just a couple days before that the entire space was booked for a private event! Total bummer. I had to think of Plan B ASAP, and decided on the patio at VMFA. On Fridays, Best Cafe, which is downstairs at the VMFA has awesome happy hour specials, and it’s a big enough space where guests can hang out among each other without feeling like they’re shoulder to shoulder. I think everyone had a blast there too! Here are some pictures to prove it 🙂
After the museum, we Ubered it to Graffiato’s. A newish place that I had recently been to with my aunt. By now they are best known for their pizzas, and they do not disappoint! My dinner party of 10 ended up being more like 18, so fortunately, Graffiato was very accommodating. I needed a hearty pizza after a few too many glasses of rose!
The Birthday Crew
A few of us ended the night dancing away to the best DJ! He played all of my favorites; Whitney Houston, Madonna, Talking Heads, and Earth, Wind, and Fire!
So, there you have it! I’m officially into my thirties!! Cheers 🙂
